Inquiry: We have received the serum and have aliqoted it and stored it at -20C as recommended on the data sheet. But wondered what the recommended storage length (i.e. to be able to establish expiry dates as we have to put one on them) of the frozen serum would be and if there are any general recommendations for expiries of serum/antibodies. Also please could you let me know what the recommended disposal route of serum would be. Thanks

Generally the serum is OK for 1 year at 4C and for 10 years when stored at -20C.

Please check the waste disposal policy of your organization. We do not include this information in MSDS, this should be taken care of by the laboratory where these substances are being used.

Dear Abcam, on the datasheet of these sera I have a concentration of 86mg/ml for the goat serum (8,6% concentration) and 71mg/ml for the rabbit serum (7,1% concentration). So no chance I can use them at 10% for IHC blocking on free-floating sections?

Thank you for contacting Abcam.
Those values are for whole protein value which we supply as a customer service. The total protein value is not considered when making blocking solutions as the percentage used is of the whole serum. Therefore to create a 100 ml or a 10% IHC block you would use 10 ml of serum in 90 ml of diluent.

Thank you for your inquiry.
According to the standard protocol we have for free floating sections, we recommend to incubate the sections with 0.1M PB/0.3% triton/1% blocking serum for at least 1 h.

I would like to know if I need to heat-inactivate goat or both serums
before aliquoting and storing, and the best protocol you suggest do
it. The heat-inactivation is not mentioned in the datasheet, anyway
I would like to be sure about it.

Thank you for your inquiry.
I assume you would like to use this serum for IHC in the blocking step?
In this case the serum does not have to be heat treated. The heat treatment is done to inactivate complement in FCS meant for cell culture for example.
I recommend to just aliquot and freeze the serum.
