补充信息

Protein G also known as IgG-binding protein is a cell wall protein from Streptococcus species. This protein weighs approximately 22 kDa which you might also know as protein G molecular weight (protein G MW). Protein G size allows it to bind specifically to immunoglobulin G (IgG) and other subclasses. Researchers often clone and express protein G recombinantly resulting in wide availability of recombinant protein G. Its expression primarily occurs in bacterial cell cultures for easy purification and use in laboratory research.
Biological function summary

Protein G plays a role in immune evasion by binding to the Fc region of IgG antibodies. This binding limits the immune system's ability to clear bacterial infections by preventing antibody-mediated opsonization and phagocytosis. Protein G can also form part of a larger immobilization complex in various experimental setups aiding in the purification and detection of antibodies. Protein G HRP conjugates further extend its utility in assay systems by enabling colorimetric detection.

Pathways

The interaction between protein G and IgG significantly impacts the immune response pathways. The binding of protein G to the Fc region of IgG interferes with pathways involving IgG-mediated activation of Fc receptors on immune cells. This affects signaling pathways like ADCC (antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity) and phagocytosis. Protein A is another bacterial protein that binds IgG similarly though it differs in affinity and subclass specificity.

Protein G's interaction with IgG relates to conditions involving bacterial infections and immune system evasion mechanisms. It impacts conditions like bacterial endocarditis by providing bacteria a means to escape immune detection. By binding IgG and interfering with the normal immune function protein G might indirectly affect proteins such as complement components. These interactions underline the importance of understanding protein G's function in designing therapeutic interventions in bacterial infections.
