NRK1 also known as nicotinamide riboside kinase 1 is an enzyme involved in the NAD+ biosynthesis pathway. It functions by phosphorylating nicotinamide riboside (NR) to generate nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) an important precursor for NAD+ synthesis. The molecular mass of NRK1 is approximately 34 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues including liver brain and muscle where it contributes to the regulation of cellular NAD+ levels.
