Biological function summary
This protein plays an important role in cellular energy metabolism and regulation. NRK1 is not part of a larger complex but interacts directly with its substrate nicotinamide riboside. By catalyzing the conversion of NR to NMN NRK1 supports the maintenance of NAD+ levels inside cells which is essential for numerous metabolic processes including those related to energy production and cellular stress responses. NRK1 activity helps regulate critical cellular functions such as DNA repair and mitochondrial function.
Pathways
Nicotinamide riboside kinase 1 integrates into the NAD+ biosynthesis pathway.
