MGRN1 also known as Mahogunin RING finger 1 is a protein with a molecular mass of around 50 kDa. It is widely expressed in many tissues including the brain liver and kidneys. This protein participates in ubiquitination processes acting as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase. The function allows it to label proteins for degradation by the proteasome which is essential for maintaining cellular protein homeostasis.
Biological function summary

The E3 ubiquitin ligase activity of MGRN1 plays a significant role in cell cycle regulation and neuronal function. It exists as part of complexes that modulate pathways important for intracellular signaling. MGRN1 can influence the distribution and turnover of associated molecules within neurons impacting synaptic transmission and neuroplasticity. Through its regulation of the proteolytic pathways MGRN1 supports essential cellular activities.
