The target glsA1 also known as Glutaminase 1 is an enzyme involved in the hydrolysis of glutamine to glutamate and ammonia playing an important role in nitrogen metabolism. It has a molecular mass of approximately 65 kDa. This enzyme is expressed in various tissues including the liver kidneys and brain where it assists in maintaining glutamate levels required for numerous cellular functions.
Biological function summary

GlsA1 serves an essential role in energy production and neurotransmitter cycling. As an important contributor to the glutaminase complex it ensures the conversion of glutamine into glutamate which neurons in the central nervous system use for signaling. This conversion process supports neurotransmitter balance and overall neural function impacting brain health and activity.

The enzyme glsA1 plays a significant position in the glutaminolysis and tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle pathways. It assists in integrating amino acid metabolism with energy production.
