补充信息

The UPP2 protein also known as Uridine Phosphorylase 2 catalyzes the reversible phosphorolysis of uridine to uracil and ribose 1-phosphate. It plays a pivotal role in nucleotide metabolism. The molecular mass of UPP2 is approximately 34 kDa. The protein expresses mainly in the liver and kidney where nucleoside metabolism is highly active indicating its significant involvement in regulating nucleoside homeostasis.
Biological function summary

This enzyme contributes to the salvage pathways of pyrimidine metabolism ensuring efficient recycling of nucleotides. It does not function alone; rather UPP2 can interact with other enzymes involved in nucleotide and nucleoside interconversions. It participates indirectly in pathways that manage nucleic acid degradation and synthesis essential for balancing cellular nucleotide pools.

Pathways

UPP2 plays a role in pyrimidine salvage and catabolic pathways. It involves itself in the conversion processes within these pathways influencing DNA and RNA turnover. The protein aligns closely with enzymes such as uridine phosphorylase 1 (UPP1) which also partake in similar reactions emphasizing their cooperation in maintaining nucleotide balance.

Abnormalities in UPP2 function have implications in cancer and metabolic disorders. Altered expression or activity of UPP2 links to cancerous proliferation through its effect on nucleotide availability. Additionally disruptions in uridine metabolism could relate to certain metabolic syndromes. The interaction between UPP2 and uridine phosphorylase 1 further demonstrates their joint involvement in these conditions highlighting potential targets for therapeutic interventions.

靶点信息

Catalyzes the reversible phosphorylytic cleavage of uridine to uracil and ribose-1-phosphate which can then be utilized as carbon and energy sources or in the rescue of pyrimidine bases for nucleotide synthesis (PubMed : 12849978, PubMed : 21855639). Shows broad substrate specificity and can also accept deoxyuridine and other analogous compounds (PubMed : 12849978).
