Biological function summary
The role of thioredoxin-like proteins such as TXNDC13/TMX4 is critical in maintaining cellular redox balance and participating in oxidative stress response. TXNDC13/TMX4 does not appear to be a part of a larger protein complex but operates by interacting directly with other proteins as a chaperone. It helps in the formation of disulfide bonds and alleviates misfolded proteins ensuring correct protein structure and function. This activity is particularly significant in cells with high secretory demands.
Pathways
TXNDC13/TMX4 is involved in pathways governing cellular redox homeostasis and the unfolded protein response. It acts in the thioredoxin pathway an important regulator of the cellular redox environment.
