TMEM56 also known as Transmembrane Protein 56 has a mass of approximately 43 kDa. It functions as a transmembrane protein that spans the cell membrane. The protein participates in cellular signaling by allowing or facilitating interaction across the membrane. TMEM56 is expressed in various tissues including the lungs heart and placenta. Its membrane-spanning capabilities suggest a role in linking extracellular signals to intracellular responses.
