SSX2 is a member of the synovial sarcoma X (SSX) breakpoint protein family. It performs mechanical function by acting as a transcriptional repressor. This protein also known as cancer/testis antigen 5.2 (CT5.2) has a mass of approximately 23 kDa. SSX2 expression is mostly restricted to testicular tissue in healthy adults but becomes anomalously expressed in various cancers making it a cancer/testis antigen of interest in research.
Biological function summary

SSX2 binds to other nuclear proteins suggesting it forms part of a regulatory complex affecting gene transcription. Such interactions influence cell cycle progression and other cellular processes. Given its involvement in transcriptional control SSX2 exerts significant influence over cellular proliferation and differentiation.
