RAB41 also known as Ras-related protein Rab-41 is a member of the Rab family of GTPases and plays a critical role in the regulation of vesicular trafficking. This protein has a mass of approximately 25 kDa. RAB41 exerts its mechanical functions by cycling between an active GTP-bound form and an inactive GDP-bound form. It is expressed in various tissues with notable expression in brain liver and lung tissues. Its localization suggests diverse roles in different cellular compartments particularly in the early stages of the Golgi apparatus.
Biological function summary

The Ras-related protein Rab family member 41 engages in intracellular vesicle transport processes and the maintenance of Golgi integrity. It interacts with other proteins as part of a complex that facilitates the proper sorting and delivery of proteins and lipids throughout the cell. Abnormal RAB41 function has been implicated in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Altered expression or mutation may contribute to the progression of cancer by disrupting normal vesicle transport and cellular communication. Additionally RAB41 dysfunction relates to neurodegenerative disorders through its connection with proteins like Tau which are important in maintaining neuronal health. Understanding these relationships can aid in developing therapeutic targets for related diseases.
