Biological function summary
The enzyme plays a role in maintaining proper intracellular membrane structure and function. It operates as part of a larger complex involving additional elements such as the small GTPase ARF1 and the scaffold protein ACBD3 which are necessary for its recruitment and activity at Golgi membranes. PI4KB facilitates vesicular trafficking and supplies substrates for the production of other phosphoinositides impacting diverse cellular events like cell growth and signal transduction.

PI4KB is an important participant in the phosphoinositide signaling pathway. This pathway regulates membrane dynamics and trafficking influencing cell signaling and membrane identity. PI4KB interacts with proteins such as PI4K2A and PI4K2B in the synthesis of different phosphoinositides which are components of the signaling cascade that include PI3K/AKT pathway having implications in cell growth and survival.
