    This antibody detects free and conjugated phosphoserine as well as phosphoserine in modified cellular proteins. It does not cross react with nonphosphorylated serine or with phosphotyrosine or phosphothreonine, neither does it cross react with AMP or ATP. However, due to steric hinderance, certain proteins known to contain phosphorylated serine may not be recognized by this antibody.

    Changes in the serine/threonine phosphorylation state of a protein in response to various external stimuli can have profound effects on cellular signal transduction, apoptosis and carcinogenesis. The reagents, including phosphorylated protein/peptides, antibodies against the phosphospecific amino acid, are important tools to explore the activation of serine, threonine or tyrosine containing proteins. An aberrant protein phosphorylation is a hallmark of human disease, and the enzymes, particularly protein kinases, which control protein phosphorylation are recognized as a major new drug target family.

What species does this antibody react with? Can it be used for mouse cell lines and primary cells as well as human primary cells?

Thank you for your enquiry. This antibody reacts with human. Other species have not been tested, however, since this antibody is directed toward phosphorylated serine, we expect it to cross-react with all animal species containing phosphoserine. Re Phosphoserine B106.1 - ab7851. Do you know if the above antibody recognises all phosphoserines present or whether a non- reactivity does not necessarily mean that no phosphoserines are present? Thanks.

There may be phosphoserines present that are not detected. Due to steric hindrance, certain proteins known to contain phosphorylated serine may not be recognized by this antibody. (this extract from the datasheet previously read as "threonine" in place of "serine". Apologies for this error which has now been corrected).
