PDZ Binding Kinase (PBK) also known as TOPK is a serine/threonine kinase with a molecular mass of approximately 36 kDa. It performs phosphorylation on certain proteins influencing their function localization or interaction with other proteins. PBK locates mainly in the testes placenta and various tumors but also expresses in smaller amounts in normal tissues such as the liver and brain. The kinase is cell cycle-dependent with activity peaking during mitosis where it plays a role by interacting with the mitotic spindle apparatus.

PBK acts as part of cellular proliferation and differentiation processes. It can form complexes with other proteins enhancing its function and stability. The kinase significantly contributes to cell growth mainly in rapidly dividing cells. PBK influences processes like spermatogenesis in testes and placental development.
