NMES1 also known as NMES1-1 is a protein involved in cellular organization and structural stability. The protein has a molecular mass of approximately 10 kDa and is primarily expressed in muscle tissues particularly in the skeletal muscle. Research shows NMES1's expression in some smooth muscle tissues as well. It has a distinct role in influencing the cellular scaffold due to its ability to interact with cytoskeletal elements. Although research on NMES1 is still developing its interactions suggest a function in maintaining cellular integrity.
Biological function summary

NMES1 influences cellular structure and organization. While it does not typically exist as part of large protein complexes its role in cytoskeletal interactions places it at the core of cellular stability mechanisms. NMES1 interacts with microtubules and actin filaments underpinning the cellular framework essential for muscle contraction and mechanical stress response.
