    Catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic amines and has important functions in the metabolism of neuroactive and vasoactive amines in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. MAOA preferentially oxidizes biogenic amines such as 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), norepinephrine and epinephrine.

Obligate female carriers have normal intelligence and behavior.

    Lanes 1 - 2: Merged signal (red and green). Green - ab126751 observed at 60 kDa. Red - loading control, ab8245, observed at 0 kDa.

    ab126751 was shown to recognize Monoamine Oxidase A in wild-type HAP1 cells as signal was lost at the expected MW in MAOA (Monoamine Oxidase A) knockout cells. Additional cross-reactive bands were observed in the wild-type and knockout cells. Wild-type and MAOA (Monoamine Oxidase A) knockout samples were subjected to SDS-PAGE. Ab126751 and ab8245 (Mouse anti-GAPDH loading control) were incubated overnight at 4°C at 1/1000 dilution and 1/20000 dilution respectively. Blots were developed with Goat anti-Rabbit IgG H&L (IRDye® 800CW) preabsorbed ab216773 and Goat anti-Mouse IgG H&L (IRDye® 680RD) preabsorbed ab216776 secondary antibodies at 1/20000 dilution for 1 hour at room temperature before imaging.

Cells were fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and the sample was incubated with the primary antibody at a dilution of 1/20. A goat anti rabbit IgG (Alexa Fluor® 488) at a dilution of 1/2000 was used as the secondary antibody.

Question

Dear Abcam,



I am interested in the anti-monoamine oxidase A (ab126751) and anti-monoamine oxidase B (ab125010) RabMAbs antibodies from your company. However, I would be using them for immunohistochemistry with frozen tissues, and the applications for the two antibodies listed on your website is for IHC-P only. I am just wondering if there would be a problem for using these antibodies on frozen tissues (i.e. due to changes in antigenic site), or if the application is not listed because it has not be validated yet.

Answer

Thank you for contacting us. The antibody has not been tested in frozen sections but I would expect it to work. Typically antibodies tested in paraffin sections do work in frozen sections, although the reverse is not necessarily true. We do put on the datasheet if an application is unsuitable, otherwise it has not been tested. If you do wish to use these products in IHC-Fr, we do have a program called the Abtrial which gives you a discount off a future purchase for testing and reviewing a product in an application we have not tested.
