    This antibody is said to be reactive to rat melanopsin but not mouse melanopsin. This contrasts with the reference provided. It also contrasts with another company (ABR) with identical antigen (http://www.bioreagents.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.detail/CatNbr/PA1-780) Any explanation? Also I would like to know whether there are peptides for these antibodies?

    Thank you for your enquiry. Further to your technical enquiry I have been in touch with my colleague who removed mouse reactivity for this antibody. Apparently the customer who complained about the murine reactivity used the antibody up to concentration of 5 ug/mL (50 times the recommended dilution) and did not see any band at 53 or 85 kD whether he incubated overnight or not, and whether he incubated in 5% milk or no milk. Upon further inspection the immunogen for ab19383 does not appear to be particularly similar to the mouse sequence. Following a ClustalW alignment there appears to be only a string of 5 amino acids that were identical. Given the minimal immunogen similarity and the reliability of the source of the complaint we feel that at this time we cannot support this antibody as having cross reactivity against mouse.
