The KBTBD10 also known as KRP1 is a protein with a molecular mass of approximately 47 kDa. This protein belongs to the BTB-kelch family and plays a role in processes related to cellular structural organization. The expression of KBTBD10 occurs in a variety of tissues including skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle where it is involved in maintaining muscle integrity and function. Its function in these tissues suggests it might also have roles in other muscle-related processes.
Biological function summary

KBTBD10/KRP1 assists in muscle cell differentiation and survival by modulating actin cytoskeleton dynamics. This protein interacts with actin filaments and contributes to the stability and assembly of the cytoskeletal framework. It acts as a part of larger protein complexes that regulate the cytoskeleton which enables cells to maintain their shape and respond to mechanical stress. KBTBD10 is implicated in cellular signaling that influences transcriptional activities important for muscle maturation and repair.

Pathways

KBTBD10/KRP1 has important roles in the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton pathway and the Wnt signaling pathway. These pathways are key in processes like cell adhesion and signal transduction. In these pathways KBTBD10 interacts with proteins like beta-catenin and other actin-binding proteins which are important in transmitting signals that affect cell motility and gene expression. Its involvement in these pathways highlights its essential role in cellular architecture and signaling networks.

KBTBD10/KRP1 has relevance to muscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy and cardiac disorders. Mutations or dysregulation of KBTBD10 can lead to disruptions in muscle cell stability and function which contribute to the development of these conditions. It associates with proteins like dystrophin and other muscle structural proteins making it integral to maintaining muscle health and function. Understanding KBTBD10's involvement in these diseases can aid in developing targeted therapeutic strategies.
