The Hepatitis C Virus NS5a (HCV NS5a) protein often simply referred to as NS5a protein is a non-structural protein important in the hepatitis C virus lifecycle. This phosphoprotein weighs approximately 56 kilodaltons and shows its expression primarily in hepatocytes cells in the liver. Researchers target NS5a as a pivotal modulator in the replication of HCV RNA and its role has made it a main target in antiviral drug development.
