GALR3 also known as Galanin Receptor 3 is a G protein-coupled receptor with a mass of approximately 40 kDa. It is part of the galanin receptor family which consists of three members: GALR1 GALR2 and GALR3 itself. GALR3 is primarily expressed in the central nervous system and certain peripheral tissues. The receptor binds to the neuropeptide galanin and modulates various intracellular signaling pathways including inhibition of adenylate cyclase and modulation of ion channels.
Biological function summary

The interaction of GALR3 with galanin influences numerous physiological processes. GALR3 is not part of a known complex but functions independently to affect neural function. The receptor plays roles in modulating mood cognition and pain perception. It contributes to the regulation of neuroendocrine functions influencing hormone release and feeding behavior.
