Immunohistochemistry (Formalin/PFA-fixed paraffin-embedded sections) analysis of human placental tissue section (4μm) labelling FGF11 with ab89713. Tissue was treated with 15μg/ml Protenase K for antigen retrieval and fixed with 4% PFA. A HRP-conjugated anti-mouse IgG was used as the secondary antibody (30 minutes at room temperature) followed by DAB color development.

FGF11 also known as Fibroblast Growth Factor 11 is a member of the FGF family specifically part of the intracellular FGF subfamily that does not exhibit heparin-binding activity. This protein weighs approximately 25 kDa. FGF11 is expressed in the nervous system particularly in the developing and adult brain with notable expression in the cerebral cortex hippocampus and cerebellum. Unlike many other FGFs FGF11 is not secreted and functions intracellularly making it unique in its mechanical role compared to its family members.
Biological function summary

FGF11 contributes to the regulation of neuronal development and function. It is not part of a well-characterized protein complex but it plays a role in stabilizing voltage-gated sodium channels influencing synaptic transmission and neuronal excitability.
