补充信息

DDX3Y also known as DBY is a protein belonging to the DEAD-box family of RNA helicases. It has a mass of approximately 73 kDa. This protein is expressed on the Y chromosome and is predominantly found in the testis where it plays a role in spermatogenesis. DDX3Y functions mechanically by unwinding RNA structures which is essential for multiple steps in RNA metabolism including transcription translation and RNA splicing. It binds and hydrolyzes ATP to exert its helicase activity.
Biological function summary

DDX3Y is essential for processing cellular RNAs which is critical for male fertility and normal spermatogenesis. This protein is part of the male-specific phenotype and contributes to the development of male-specific organs. DDX3Y is not typically associated with a protein complex. Instead it acts as a single molecule within its biological function though it can interact with various other RNA-binding proteins.

Pathways

DDX3Y impacts RNA processing and maturation essential steps in cellular function. It is involved in spermatogenesis and possibly participates in the regulation of gene expression by controlling the translation of certain mRNAs. Additionally DDX3Y is linked to the piRNA pathway which is important for maintaining genome integrity during spermatogenesis and it may interact with components like PIWIL proteins.

DDX3Y plays a role in male infertility particularly cases linked to azoospermia and oligospermia where reduced or absent sperm production occurs. Mutations or deletions in the DDX3Y gene have been associated with these conditions. DDX3Y may also relate to Y chromosome-linked disorders and it can interact with other proteins involved in spermatogenesis malfunction such as USP9Y. These connections underline its significance in understanding male reproductive health issues.
