Biological function summary
CXXC4 functions as a negative regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway. It does not form part of a complex but influences Wnt signaling by interacting with Dishevelled proteins. This interaction inhibits the downstream signaling cascade that Wnt usually activates which results in regulated cell growth and differentiation. These actions give CXXC4 significant influence over cellular proliferation and development.
Pathways
The suppression of the Wnt signaling pathway by CXXC4 affects key cellular processes. The Wnt pathway is essential for developmental and regenerative processes and CXXC4's inhibition of this pathway provides a check on excessive cell proliferation. By interacting with Dishevelled proteins CXXC4 prevents unchecked cell growth which keeps a balance in cellular homeostasis. This interaction with Dishevelled highlights the importance of CXXC4 in maintaining cellular regulation within the Wnt signaling context.
