补充信息

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

Collagen I + II + III are major components of the extracellular matrix providing structural support to various tissues. They are sometimes referred to as fibrillar collagens due to their ability to form strong fibrillar structures. Each type consists of three polypeptide chains wound into a triple helix with type I collagen having a molecular mass around 300 kDa. Collagen I is mostly found in skin tendons and bones while collagen II is abundant in cartilage. Collagen III is primarily located in skin blood vessels and internal organs. Together they provide tensile strength and are key to tissue integrity.
Biological function summary

Collagen I + II + III support tissue resilience and elasticity enabling organs and structures to endure stress while maintaining shape. They are integral to the formation of extracellular matrix complexes and interact with other matrix proteins like elastin and fibronectin. Through these interactions they not only provide structural support but also influence cell behavior affecting processes like cell proliferation and differentiation. These collagens contribute to wound healing by forming a scaffold that facilitates cell migration and tissue remodeling.

Pathways

These collagens influence the signaling pathways involved in tissue homeostasis and repair. They are part of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway that manages cell growth and differentiation. Collagen binding to integrins also affects the PI3K/Akt pathway which regulates cell survival and metabolism. These interactions highlight their role in maintaining the extracellular matrix's integrity with relationships to other extracellular matrix proteins like laminins and integrins.

Abnormalities in collagen I + II + III are linked to connective tissue disorders such as osteogenesis imperfecta and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Osteogenesis imperfecta related to collagen I mutations results in brittle bone pathology due to impaired collagen fibril formation. In contrast mutations in collagen II are associated with cartilage disorders like Stickler syndrome affecting vision and joint function. These conditions highlight the significance of collagenous proteins in tissue stability and functionality interfacing with proteins involved in inflammatory responses and tissue repair.
