CEP135 also known as centrosomal protein 135kDa is an important structural component of the centrosome an important cellular organelle responsible for organizing microtubules during cell division. The protein has a molecular mass of approximately 135 kDa. It localizes mainly to the centrosome appearing in various cell types where it assists in the maintenance of centrosome integrity. Its expression is not limited to a single tissue; instead it occurs broadly underlining its importance in cellular processes reliant on centrosome function.
Biological function summary

CEP135 belongs to the percentriolar matrix where it plays a role in centrosome cohesion and spindle formation during mitosis. The protein contributes significantly to the assembly of the centrosomal complex working in concert with other structural proteins. Within this complex it acts to ensure the centrosome can correctly duplicate and segregate essential steps for accurate cell division and maintenance of genomic stability.

Centrosomal microtubule-binding protein involved in centriole biogenesis (PubMed : 27477386). Acts as a scaffolding protein during early centriole biogenesis. Required for the targeting of centriole satellite proteins to centrosomes such as of PCM1, SSX2IP and CEP290 and recruitment of WRAP73 to centrioles. Also required for centriole-centriole cohesion during interphase by acting as a platform protein for CEP250 at the centriole. Required for the recruitment of CEP295 to the proximal end of new-born centrioles at the centriolar microtubule wall during early S phase in a PLK4-dependent manner (PubMed : 27185865).
