The BTC protein also known as betacellulin is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family that plays an important role in cell signaling. It is a growth factor with a molecular weight of approximately 32 kDa. BTC is expressed in a range of tissues including the pancreas kidney and small intestine. This protein binds to and activates the EGF receptor (EGFR) stimulating various cellular processes.
