    Aprotinin inhibits the activity of several proteolytic enzymes such as chymotrypsin, kallikrein, plasmin and trypsin. It is present in blood and in most tissues, with a high concentration in lung, inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokine release and maintains glycoprotein homeostasis. In platelets, Aprotinin reduces glycoprotein loss (e.g., GpIb, GpIIb/IIIa), while in granulocytes it prevents the expression of pro-inflammatory adhesive glycoproteins. Aprotinin is a natural proteinase inhibitor polypeptide consisting of fifty-eight amino acids arranged in a single polypeptide chain, cross-linked by three disulfide bridges.

    Dear Abcam,

    I work for a biotesting company called xxxxx, which is based in xxxxxxx. The reason for the e-mail is I wish to make an inquiry concerning your anti-aprotinin antibody [35] (ab82110) & anti-aprotinin antibody (Biotin) (ab121046).

    We wish to try and detect antibodies that are anti-aprotinin in rat plasma. Would any of the anti-aprotinin antibodies be suitable for this?

    The two anti-aprotinin antibodies we have in our catalogue (ab82110 and ab121046) have both been raised against full length aprotinin from cow (SwissProt reference http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P00974). When comparing this sequence to that of the rat protein(SwissProt reference http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P09655), a very low homology is observed (14%). I would therefore not expect the antibodies to be able to detect the rat protein.
