    Abcam’s Retinol binding protein (RBP) Human in vitro ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of Retinol binding protein concentrations in Human milk, urine, CSF, saliva and cell culture supernatants.


    A Retinol binding protein specific antibody has been precoated onto 96-well plates and blocked. Standards or test samples are added to the wells and subsequently a Retinol binding protein specific biotinylated detection antibody is added and then followed by washing with wash buffer. Streptavidin-Peroxidase Conjugate is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. TMB is then used to visualize Streptavidin-Peroxidase enzymatic reaction. TMB is catalyzed by Streptavidin-Peroxidase to produce a blue color product that changes into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Retinol binding protein captured in plate.


    The entire kit may be stored at -20°C for long term storage before reconstitution - Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Kit was used in human urine samples. RBP was easy to quantify in control samples. In some urine samples after treatment RBP concentrations were close to the detection limit of the kit. Even with an overnight incubation this problem could not be solved.

The reference range for retinol binding protein in urine sample using the Retinol binding protein Human ELISA Kit (ab108899) has not been determined. The kit has been used with urine samples from donors with no known diseases or conditions that may affect the concentrations. The readings from this fell within the range of 0.08 – 1.04 ug/ml. Thank you for contacting us and sorry for the delay in getting back to you in regards to the Retinol binding protein Human ELISA Kit (ab108899).

I now have confirmation from the source of this kit that with urine samples, you should not need to centrifuge the samples prior to freezing. The samples taken can be frozen, then when they are ready to perform the assay, defrosted, centrifuged then assayed.

I hope this information answers your question.

I spoke to my colleagues in marketing in regards to the quote for 9-12 kits. We were wondering if you had used the kit yet? If you have not tried it as yet, we would recommend that you just purchase one to start off with to see if it would be suitable for the experiments you hope to perform, then place an order for the rest of the kits.
