    Thank you for contacting us. The following is the email I have received from my colleagues.

    Regarding the stability - we should advise the customer that in a RT solution the compound shows partial decomposition to give a small amount of un-caged glutamate after 24 hours (even when shielded from the light). If handled according to the datasheet then this should not happen.

    They have confirmed that the product is little unstable when in solution so recommended to be used in 24 hours.

    I have also forwarded your contact details to product developer you will be receiving a call soon.

    We will be sending one 10 mg pack of this product tomorrow morning.

    Please see below for the response from the customer;

    We received 3 vials at first, then a 4th one came later. I apologise, however, that I only have a record of one Lot # (12277-1-1) as I threw away the other sheets of paper that has the information. I also put all the vials together in one bag so I don't know which vial was the odd one and whether that was the vial that seemed undamaged.

    The vials were kept sealed in the freezer. Just before each experiment I took one vial out of freezer wrapped in aluminum foil and made the solution under red light. I then added the Rubi-glu to the bath. With 3 of the 4 vials, we observed massive depolarisation a few seconds after adding Rubi-glu to the bath before turning on laser.

    Please let me know if you require any further info or have some suggestions for the customer.

    As I mentioned, I have arranged for 3 new vials to be sent. These are currently being synthesized and we would expect for them to be with you early October. I am very sorry for the delay and any inconvenience this may cause.

    I will arrange for 3 vials of RuBi-Glutamate (ab120408) from a different lot number to be sent out to you. This is currently on the order number 1148036but please be aware that it may be moved to a different order through consolidation. If you would like to track the item please quote xxxxxx to any of our customer service representatives.

    In order to investigate this case further, it would be very helpful to know which of the 4 vials there was a problem with and which one worked. Did the customer receive all the vials at the same time or were 3 sent and then 1 separately, or vice versa? Do the customers know which one it was that worked?

    Am I correct in thinking that the customer observed a reaction with the compound without applying any light (suggesting that the compound was uncaged before applying)?

    Would the customer mind describing how the product was stored and what tests were performed with the compound? This will allow us to understand what may have been contributing to the problems.

    Thank you for your prompt reply. The level of customer service I have received at abcam is laudable. I must say that no concern was raised when I brought up the issue of a leaky cage with xxxxx. If the new compound proves to be a success, I would be more than willing to provide you with a figure of my experimental design and results (ie glutamate-evoked responses at single spines using local perfusion and focaluncaging of RuBi-glutamate inhippocampal slice) if it would be of any use to you; I suspect that my fellow neuroscientists would find it of tremendous value.
