    Phenylalanine Assay Kit ab83376 provides a quick, simple, accurate method for quantifying phenylalanine in biological samples.


    In the phenylalanine assay protocol, phenylalanine is reductively deaminated with the simultaneous formation of NADH which reacts with our fluorescent probe to generate fluorescence at Ex/Em=535/587 nm. The assay is linear in the range from 0.1 to 1.0 nmol (2-20 µM) of Phenylalanine.

    This product is manufactured by BioVision, an Abcam company and was previously called K572 Phenylalanine Fluorometric Assay Kit. K572-100 is the same size as the 100 test size of ab83376.

Phenylalanine uses the same active transport channel as tryptophan to cross the blood-brain barrier, and, in large quantities, interferes with the production of serotonin.

Thank you for contacting us.
The enzyme used in the assay can react with tyrosine and methionine as well as
phenylalanine. Serum methionine concentrations are generally low enough to be
insignificant in this assay. Tyrosine concentrations may interfere. If tyrosine interference is a concern, add 5 μl tyrosinase to the samples and preincubate for 10 minutes before
performing the assay to remove tyrosine interference.

We were planning to analyse mouse tissue samples (brain, retina, lung)for phenylalanine content and would be interested to know if you have any further information about the amount of tissue that may be required for use with this kit (ab83376), as there are no specific reviews of the kit. The product datasheet recommends using20mg of tissue, haveyoureceived any feedback on use ofthis amount from other researchers and the readings obtained using the kit with such a sample? Also, are you aware of the kit being usedspecifically for mouse tissue?



Any additional information you can provide would be most helpful in determining if this is the correct kit for our needs.

Please excuse the delay in my answer. this kit was not tested in-house and I was in contact with the lab that tested it.

Unfortunately, actual data is proprietary information.

But I was assured that the kitis suitable for mouse samples.

We do not know of any publications using this kit at the moment, but will add them to the datasheet as soon as we know of any.

Well, I am working with an enzyme that is also a methylase that is involved in the N-methylation of a phenylalanine residue. I wonder if I could discriminate a phenylalanine that is methylated from other that is not with your kit?
