I can confirm that the chemiluminescent peroxidase substrate ab5801 is actually a bit more sensitive than the ECL or ECL+ products. The fact you are having low signal with this substrate and the antibodies ab6721 and ab12856 could be due to a number of reasons, either protocol related or antibody/reagent related. The kit should be stable for a minimum of 18 months at 2-8 degrees C, if it is older than that it may have gone off.
