RNA modifications are ubiquitous in biology and present in all classes of cellular RNAs. Recent studies have shown that RNA modifications are critical to the processing and metabolism of different RNA species, and represent a new mode of post-transcriptional gene expression regulation. This conference brings together world’s experts on RNA modification research with an emphasis on biological function and physiological relevance of RNA modifications. Speakers will discuss functional significances of RNA modifications in cell differentiation and development, human diseases such as cancer, neurobiology, metabolism, and other related subjects. 

​Organized by Abcam and Chuan He, this is the follow-up meeting to the RNA Modifications and Epitranscriptomics conference which took in 2016.

Scientific Organizer

  • ​​Chuan He​ (Director, Institute for Biophysical Dynamics, University of Chicago, HHMI, US)

Dr. He's research program spans a broad range of chemical biology, nucleic acid chemistry and biology, epigenetics, cell biology, bioinorganic chemistry, structural biology, microbiology, and genomics. They discovered the first RNA demethylase and continue to explore gene expression regulation mediated by dynamic and reversible RNA modifications. They developed enabling tools to map DNA 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) and its oxidation derivatives in mammalian genomes and continue to study DNA 5-methylcytosine (5mC) oxidation and demethylation in biological regulation. The lab also revealed the presence of DNA 6-methyladenosine (6mA) in eukaryotic genomes and continue to investigate functional roles played by this new DNA mark in eukaryotes. Currently the lab studies virulence and antibiotic resistance regulation in human pathogens as well as metal ion homeostasis and selective metal ion recognition by naturally occurring and engineered proteins.
